The ANC won 65.9 percent, or 11.6 million votes, according to the Independent Electoral Commission.The Democratic Alliance polled just 16.66 percent of the national vote but showed a strong win in Western Cape.

The Congress of the People, received 7.42 percent of the vote.

For those of you concerned about swine flu and are curious if this may affect our trip: The GSU Study Abroad Office, your faculty an d RCB will take all necessary measures to keep our students healthy. The situation is being monitored daily through the CDC and the WHO as well as other reliable sources. At this point it is still too early to tell how this is going to develop and how it will affect any of the GSU Study Abroad programs.  Currently, all GSU programs are still scheduled to go. We have a professional team interested in making informed decisions.  If additional measures are needed, we will be in touch.  What is important is that you and your family know this is a top priority of the Study Abroad office right now, and we are monitoring the situation closely.

With the election just completed yesterday we will arrive in South Africa at an interesting time.  This may well be the big test if South Africa and continue on the path of a multi-party democracy or if the dominance of one party will in the end test the democratic ideals.  Result will become more complete this weekend. ..
